CORPORATE & ASSOCIATION HISTORIES

CommScope, Inc.

BOOK:  CONNECTING THE WORLD: The CommScope Story

In 2006, Milestones was hired by CommScope founder, chairman and CEO Frank M. Drendel to document the company’s 30-year history. In 1976, Drendel and a partner—Jearld Leonhardt—cobbled together $5 million to buy a failing coaxial cable business that no one else wanted. Says Drendel: “On August 16, 1976, [we] took a deep breath, rolled up our sleeves, and galloped off into the future with slightly more than a hundred hardy employees in tow.” Betting their tiny company’s fate on the explosive growth of the American cable television industry, Drendel and Leonhardt built CommScope into a global giant in providing infrastructure solutions for communications networks in more than 130 countries.
