National Council for Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB)

BOOK:  NCARB at 100: The Resiliency of an Idea

In May 1919, a small band of influential architects and academics founded the National Association of Architectural Registration Boards to bring method to the madness of state laws and procedures regulating interstate practice. Respected for its unflinching principles, NCARB eventually took on many key roles for the profession, including administration of the Architectural Registration Examination—the rigorous test that every architect must pass to be licensed to practice in the United States. The Resiliency of an Idea documents the quiet but pivotal role that NCARB and its dedicated state and regional volunteers have played in promoting the public’s safety for 100 years.
